BIRMINGHAM, AL (February 17, 2022) – The city of Alexandria, Louisiana is starting off 2022 by sending city leaders through Retail Academy, a training program hosted by Retail Strategies, that educates communities on their retail development opportunities. The city will also focus on growth in downtown Alexandria by working with Downtown Strategies on the creation of a five-year strategic plan to drive business development and tourism in the city center.

“Retail Academy will introduce practical and attainable retail education to train our city leaders to ‘speak retail’ to decision-makers and market Alexandria to new businesses,” said Mayor Jeff Hall. “Combining this education with the Downtown Strategies team gives Alexandria a depth of resources that will continue to help our city develop and thrive.”

“Retail Academy is designed to support community leaders to feel empowered when approaching retailers,” said Madeline Farr, director of Retail Academy. “We have seen the ways in which Retail Academy can transform a community, adding value by investing back into the city. The city is being proactive by combining the Retail Academy curriculum with the downtown plan to understand both downtown Alexandria’s opportunities and the entire city’s opportunities for growth.”

Retail Academy educates city leaders on retail and business recruitment, real estate, and small business support. As businesses and communities continue to adapt during the pandemic, Retail Academy provides local leaders with the necessary tools to continue supporting retail and restaurant businesses.

“Alexandria has a great downtown serving as the core of the community,” said Jenn Gregory, president of Downtown Strategies. “Our team will also work hand-in-hand with Arnett Muldrow & Associates to create a customized five-year strategic plan. We’re ready to visit the community and meet with local stakeholders to get started on a plan that will provide them implementable and actionable steps for downtown revitalization.”

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
