“As the new director for Main Street Anniston, I felt it best to begin work on a short-range, strategic plan right from the start. The right plan will provide our area with clear and attainable goals over the course of the next 5 years, as well as serve as a point of unity for our community’s collective vision for our main street,” said Jackson Hodges, Main Street Anniston Director. “After seeing Retail Strategies previous work and the professional and driven service of their representatives, I felt their organization was best suited for assisting us in carrying out the great vision for our historic downtown district!”
Main Street Anniston is a designated community of Main Street Alabama. According to Main Street Alabama, over the past two years downtown Anniston saw a $4 million renovation of a 10- story high rise, and approximately $300,000 in smaller building rehabs, as well as several business expansions and relocations to downtown. This steady investment trend got a boost several years ago when a popular destination restaurant and caterer, Classic on Noble, opened. The hundreds who come downtown to dine in the 1888 building it rehabbed (two floors of which had been closed since 1919) have spurred renovation and investment in nearby buildings.
“The city of Anniston has an expanding and resurgent downtown located in the community,” said Jenn Gregory, president of Downtown Strategies. “Downtown Strategies is excited to build off the city’s momentum to deliver key analytics and a strategic plan customized to Anniston. Our team will work with Anniston’s business owners and city leaders to formulate creative solutions for the community. We applaud the city leadership for working towards continued progression in the downtown area and subsequently Anniston as a whole.”
The Retail Strategies team will host an in-market workshop with business owners, merchants, community leaders, and elected officials to gain feedback and allow dialogue for development ideas. The team will also execute a market and real estate analysis taking a deeper dive into Anniston. A customized five-year Strategic Plan will be developed with specific strategies focused on policy, design, tourism, and economic catalyst opportunities for the area.
