BIRMINGHAM, AL (June 29, 2022) – Retail Strategies, the leading national retail recruitment firm, is partnering with Mississippi County, Arkansas, to deliver Retail Academy. Created by Retail Strategies, Retail Academy educates community leaders on best practices to attract new retail and restaurants while providing resources to support and grow existing businesses.
Mississippi County benefitted from this training through Arkansas State University’s Delta Center for Economic Development’s COVID-19 Recovery and Resiliency program initiatives. Thirteen attendees participated in Retail Academy in Birmingham, Alabama, for the day-long workshop.
“Like higher-paying jobs and quality schools, retail development is an integral part of attracting residents to live in your community and building a robust economy,” said Andrea Allen, executive director of the Delta Center for Economic Development at Arkansas State University. “This learning experience has given Mississippi County community leaders the skills and knowledge to draw national retailers to their towns and to build on the growth that they have experienced in the last year. The Delta Center is pleased that we were able to facilitate this unique opportunity for the County.”
“We hosted a unique Retail Academy for Mississippi County with multiple cities represented. The county is getting a new steel plant that is bringing over 800 jobs, so it is imperative that the city have a plan for retail growth,” said Madeline Farr, director of Retail Academy. “The group that participated was active in creative conversations and eager to learn.”
“Retail Academy is an outstanding and comprehensive program that I would highly recommend,” said Mallory Darby, Mississippi County’s vice president of economic development. “Retail Strategies provided us with a Retail Recruitment Plan identifying retailers that match our market. Their team also spent time giving us the tools and skills needed to execute the plan and support existing businesses in our area. We left the workshop with a better understanding of our market and greater relationships with the dedicated partners and leaders from the county.”
