More rooftops mean more retail in Davenport

Davenport continues to see more retail and commercial companies moving into the area and new subdivisions are popping up to accommodate more residents. Davenport recently hired Retail Strategies to aid in bringing the businesses that residents want to see.
Jeff Sommer, portfolio director for the company, said they are working to recruit fast, casual, and quick-service restaurants for the city. They are also looking at grocery chains and home improvement/hardware retailers.
“We are looking at bringing brands to the city limits like downtown and Highway 17,” he said, but he stressed that it could take some time.
“Retail builds upon retail.”
Retail Strategies helps cities pursue national brands and “Davenport wants them,” said Sommer. The Birmingham-based company is there to help cities who may not know how to approach large retail stores.
Retailers are certainly taking note of the growth in Polk County.
The Northeast Polk Chamber of Commerce is excited to welcome new businesses to Davenport. Two of the most recent restaurants to join the chamber are Chipotle and Marco’s Pizza.
“Our membership has increased the last 10 months,” said Executive Director Lana Stripling. “We are growing so fast and there are more opportunities for our residents. I know we’ll continue to see bigger retail as we see more residents.”
