“Retail as a Catalyst for Economic Development”
Lacy Beasley and Terrie Battuello
ICSC RECon 2016
May 23rd, 2016 [One hour session.]
During this session Beasley and Battuello start with a broad overview of retail as an economic developer rather than follower. Highlighting trends and statistics, such as 1 in 4 jobs are retail and on average retail jobs out pay median income, they discuss which retail sectors are growing and why. They then provide case studies of how retail development bolstered municipal tax base and quality of life, leading to overall economic development.
Beasley, President & COO of Retail Strategies, has given similar talks over a dozen times in the last year. As an industry expert she has spoken across the nation, publishing articles and participating on panels at various events.

“Traditional thinking in economic development was that you didn’t necessarily plan on retail as an expansion, but that has really changed, say speakers at a session Monday at ICSC RECon.”
