BIRMINGHAM, AL (August 24, 2020) – The Warren County Downtown Economic Development Authority has selected Retail Strategies as its retail recruitment partner for Bowling Green and the surrounding areas. The growing population in Warren County has been a catalyst for expanding retail economic development efforts. The partnership includes a focus on downtown Bowling Green as well as a comprehensive retail development strategy for the greater community.
With the creation of the Bowling Green TIF district and significant capital improvements in the district, the next step is bringing new retail and restaurants to the district. Retail Strategies specializes in both downtown development and retail recruitment, so we chose them to leverage their network of retail real estate professionals to spark development in Warren County and Bowling Green.”Doug Gorman, Bowling Green TIF Authority Chairman
“It’s an exciting time to team up with Bowling Green and Warren County,” said Sarah Beth Thornton, business development director for Retail Strategies. “We have identified areas of opportunities for expanding retail and restaurant concepts, I’m confident we’ll be able to bring shopping and dining options to downtown Bowling Green for the residents and visitors in the area.”
The Retail Strategies team has performed an initial market assessment of downtown and the surrounding areas to identify opportunities for new development. For downtown specifically, a one-day Strategic Visioning Workshop was held that included city leaders and downtown stakeholders. The feedback the Retail Strategies team received during the workshop, plus the market assessment and independent discovery, will make up the strategic recommendations for the Downtown Strategic Vision. The plan will include a three-to-five year strategic plan with specific strategies focused on policy, design, tourism, and economic catalyst opportunities for the downtown area.
We look forward to formulating a collaborative plan that includes retail development and placemaking strategies that all stakeholder entities in the downtown area can subscribe to for a truly coordinated and transformational approach to further developing and redeveloping Downtown Bowling Green.”Jenn Gregory, President, Downtown Strategies
Downtown Bowling Green is beautiful and features unique areas such as the historic Fountain Square and the more contemporary Bowling Green Ballpark. There has been significant investment in the area, but there are also opportunities for branding the downtown cohesively and for enhanced events and tourism opportunities,” said Jenn Gregory, President of Downtown Strategies. “We look forward to formulating a collaborative plan that includes retail development and placemaking strategies that all stakeholder entities in the downtown area can subscribe to for a truly coordinated and transformational approach to further developing and redeveloping Downtown Bowling Green.”
“The Downtown Visioning Workshop allowed for stakeholders, those most invested in Downtown Bowling Green, to voice their vision for downtown as well as having an open discussion about the challenges to achieving those visions,” said Brent Childers, Director of Neighborhood and Community Services for the City of Bowling Green. “Retail Strategies has shown to be a professional organization geared toward the success of Bowling Green. They have demonstrated that they have the relationships and expertise to produce positive results.”
