According to Bill Read, executive vice president of our sister company, Retail Specialists, Burlington has been aggressive with growth this year, opening 100 stores in 2021 compared to 62 stores last year. From 2016 to 2021, the average store size has shrunk from an average of 51,000 sf to 32,000 sf. The new preferred store size is 25,000 sf.

Burlington’s rapid expansion has been great news for landlords that got back hundreds of boxes from merchants that either filed Chapter 11 or closed under performing stores.

“Looking further out, we remain very excited by the market share opportunities ahead of us. Our 34% total sales growth year-to-date reinforces our confidence in this opportunity.

MICHAEL O’SULLIVAN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

My relationship with the Retail Strategies team has been extremely valuable over the last couple of years as I’ve searched for sites in the Southeast. They have been persistent and provided any information they could gather for available properties that fit my criteria. If they received news that a space was coming available they made sure to immediately give me a call and connect with the owners. I would recommend using this service to any of my colleagues looking in their client cities.
